For parents like Yvonne, who arrived in Glasgow six months pregnant and alone, connecting with Amma was a huge relief. Through Amma, Yvonne gained the support of a birth companion and was able to meet other parents who are now like family.
Babies and parents thrive when they feel well supported.
But for many parents in the asylum system, this essential network of support is simply not there.
From 1-1 care during pregnancy to peer support following birth, our services help parents build friendships, increase confidence, and gain a sense of belonging.
By donating to Amma this holiday season, you will help us deliver vital services to parents in need.
Our core services include:
Our volunteers are trained to deliver specialist trauma informed, culturally competent care to birthing people throughout the perinatal period.
Our volunteer companions work in teams to provide continuous practical and emotional support from the third trimester of pregnancy to several weeks following birth.
Our Amma Family Programme supports our clients to build strong, supportive networks with other parents. Parents are encouraged to join at any point during pregnancy and are welcome to take part indefinitely.
Our user-led parent and baby group provides participants with a safe and inclusive space
to meet on a regular basis.
Our birth and postnatal preparation course provides participants with a comprehensive and holistic understanding of how to prepare for birth and life with a new baby.
Co-created by an experienced midwife and a doula/hypnobirthing practitioner, this course is designed to be inclusive, trauma-informed, and accessible to all birthing people.
